Day Three

 Good morning!

Just got a text from Lin and she went for a walk this morning (physio didn’t come yesterday, I hit a wall, came ‘home’ and slept for hours). Last night Judi and I popped up for a wee visit. And yes, Judi was VERY impressed with how coherent and funny Lin was and how well she looked.

Dr. McNeill stopped in yesterday (on her way to the airport, she’s off to London for some big Doctor dinner) and told Lin that the operation could not have gone better! Granted, it was very long but again for the Miracle Girl, the stars were aligned. As the docs made their way through Lin’s prodigious accumulation of adhesions, the liver was nicked. And who was in the next OR…a liver specialist who came and fixed it!

The epidural is still in place, keeping pain at bay and it will come out tomorrow. Also, the NG tube is scheduled to come out today, then there may be some jello in Lin’s future!

Please pretend there is a photo of Lin right here, she’s smiling, thumbs up! My feeble brain cannot remember how🥴.

    Oh this is such good news!!! Denise just told me I have to “go” to the blog. The blog won’t come to me —so I just now read your report. Thank goodness you are on the other side of the surgery and it went well. Linda is truly amazing!!! Was the gastroenterologist named Deepu George? That’s Em’s gastroenterologist. I’m so happy for you both. Now just heal, rest, breathe, heal, love, breathe, heal.

Here we go again/On the road again

 Hello, family and friends! Yes, starting out with 2 of our favourite songs!! Mamma Mia, here we go again: last November, an abdominal anomaly showed up on Linda’s CT scan; many tests later, we were told the beast had returned to her body. Then came a long and frustrating waiting game…for a surgery date. And we got that last week, Linda’s date is June 27th - hurrah!  We are hoping the lengthy wait is because Lin’s cancer is a slow-growing beast; we trust our oncologist. Then, we realized that we could follow our dream to be… On the road again (Willy!):  Next Wednesday, we’ll be leaving on the Great Trek across the country to the centre of the universe. We plan to take our time and stop in various cities to visit with friends. Then, we’ll fly to Vancouver a few days before the surgery for pre-op stuff. We’ll come back to Vernon after Linda’s release for a couple of weeks for healing and recovery before flying back to Ontario to spend more time with family. We might add som...

Safely in Vancouver

 We flew from Toronto to Van today and are now bedded and cosy at our most favourite hotel. Tomorrow we’re going with Judi and Patti to a raucous (we hope) musical here on Granville Island and after, Lin will get the fish and chips she’s been craving for what seems like weeks! Monday is more preop stuff and a meeting with our oncologist, Dr. McNeil. Then Lin’s surgery is first thing on Tuesday morning. We remain optimistic. And we are very, very thankful that we had the time in Ontario with our family. I keep calling the visit a distraction, but I’ve come to believe it was more than that…it was a filling-up of our buckets with laughter and love, just what we needed!

Update: 8-1

  Dear family and friends,  This has indeed been quite a year.     The lung surgery which removed a tumour went well, and Linda has bounced back quicker than we thought.     Yay! Unfortunately, in talking with the thoracic doctor yesterday concerning the pathology report, we learned that Lin’s PMP cancer has metastasized into her right lung.    A very rare occurrence for PMP to spread outside the abdominal area, but not entirely unexpected.   So, we will be discussing how we move forward with our wonderful oncologist, Dr. MacNeill, in the next few weeks.    The bright side is that this type of cancer tends to be slow growing so we are thankful for that. We have lived with this cancer for the past 13 years and we will continue to think positively and live boldly!!    Stay tuned for further updates, but please know we are doing okay and savouring each and every day!    Hope you do, too!!
